Arti Shah - Endometriosis Advocate

Arti Shah

CO-FOUNDER AND CEO

Endometriosis Advocate & Counsellor

As both a certified counsellor and endometriosis patient, Arti brings a unique dual perspective to her work supporting individuals affected by this chronic condition. Her personal journey with endometriosis has deeply informed her professional approach, allowing her to combine evidence-based therapeutic techniques with genuine empathy and firsthand understanding. Since 2015, she has dedicated herself to endometriosis advocacy, creating supportive communities and educational resources for those navigating their diagnosis.

In her role as a registered counsellor, Arti specialises in providing comprehensive emotional and psychological support to individuals at all stages of their endometriosis journey. She conducts both pre-surgery and post-surgery counselling sessions, develops personalised therapy plans, and facilitates support groups that foster connection and mutual understanding. Her collaborative approach involves working closely with medical professionals to ensure her clients receive well-rounded care that addresses both their physical and emotional needs.

Arti’s commitment to endometriosis education and awareness extends beyond her counselling practice. As the host of “A Ray of Sunshine,” Kenya’s first endometriosis-focused podcast, she interviews specialists, advocates, and patients from around the world, making complex medical information accessible to her audience. She is the creative force behind Endo Quest, a game developed by The Yellow Circle, to help raise public awareness about endometriosis in a fund and engaging way.

Arti holds a Certificate in Child and Adolescent Counselling from the Amani Institute, credentials that complement her extensive practical experience in supporting the endometriosis community. She also holds a Diploma in Forensic Psychology and Criminology from the Kenya Institute of Criminal Justice.

Inside the Invisible Pain - A poem and VR video by Arti Shah

a poem in VR by ARTI Shah

Inside the Invisible Pain

“Inside the Invisible Pain,” piece has been so dear to me, not only because it’s one of the first of its kind in the world but also because it represents every single endo warrior out there. It shows what an endo warrior goes through internally with endometriosis and demystifies the myth that it’s all in your head!!!

It has taken a lot of thought process, creativity, trial and error, multiple recordings and an insane amount of emotions whilst creating “Inside the Invisible Pain”

Inside the Invisible Pain was created using styrofoam sheets to depict the inner mid torso of a girl/ woman with endometriosis and brought to life through paint and various techniques and textures. The veins and arteries are inflamed, the ovaries have cysts, the intestines are somewhat ruptured, the barbed wire represents the shooting needle like pain, the sound of fire represents the burning sensation during periods and flare ups, the adhesions are covered in blood and there’s bruising around them.

Endo warriors look fine on the outside but what we go through on the inside is a completely different horror movie.

Compassionate Counselling for Endometriosis & Adenomyosis

Counselling goes a long way to ease the journey of chronic illnesses. A good counsellor can help you understand your emotions, help you identify your triggers, and give you tools to deal with the many mental, physical, emotional challenges that endometriosis and adenomyosis throw at you.

Endometriosis and Diet: Finding What Works for You

It took careful observation, trial and error, and elimination to notice the difference that diet made to my endo symptoms. Once I identified the triggers and removed them from my diet, I experienced fewer painful surprises and a little more stability in my daily life.
