Level 6: Treatment Options
Information Booth 1
Treatments are individualized
Even though Endometriosis is still relatively misunderstood, very under researched in the medical world, and there is no known cure, a range of treatments is available depending on the severity of the endometriosis.
Treatments are targeted to each individual case because there is no one size fits all when it comes to endometriosis, its symptoms, its treatment plans, and its management.
Information Booth 2
Common treatments
The most common treatment is surgery and hormonal medication.
Note: There is no proof that hormone treatment can slow the growth. This is a common myth. Hormone suppression can reduce inflammation around the lesions in some people, reducing symptoms. Only some people will respond; sometimes, it can quit working over time.
Not everyone has their period stopped with hormone suppression, but for those who do, it can help reduce pain by reducing painful periods.
Besides that, hormonal medications are risky and have many strong side effects, which can have a massive impact on your physical and mental health and affect certain organs.
Information Booth 3
Other conventional treatments
Other conventional treatments include painkillers, and anti-inflammatories.
Information Booth 4
Excision surgery
Laparoscopy has long been considered the only way to confirm endometriosis. Today, with advanced imaging and trained endometriosis excision specialists, deep endometriosis and endometriomas can often be detected on imaging, but smaller lesions may still be missed.
Laparoscopy with biopsy remains the most reliable way to confirm the disease.
Excision surgery is currently the gold standard and the most effective treatment because it removes the disease from the body. We will cover excision surgery in more detail in the next level.
Information Booth 5
Natural treatments
Along with laparoscopic surgery, natural treatments and self-care strategies can help manage symptoms and support overall health.
Everyone’s journey is different, so finding what works for you can make a big difference in how you feel.
Information Booth 6
Holistic treatments
The reason many women take the holistic management route is either because they can’t afford the laparoscopic surgery or are tired of being dismissed by doctors.
After having multiple ablation surgeries and getting tired of going down the conventional route, many resort to holistic treatments.
